New Dwelhi: Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, warned on Saturday that inflation will continue to grow and urged the government to act immediately to protect the country's citizens.
Gandhi asserted that inflation is a tax on all Indians, claiming that record price increases had devastated the poor and middle class even before the Russia-Ukraine conflict began."It (inflation) will continue to rise as: - Crude oil surpasses $100 per barrel - Food prices are predicted to soar by 22% - COVID upsets the global supply chain," he wrote in a tweet. "GOI must act IMMEDIATELY. "Protect the people," the former Congressman stated.
Retail inflation reached an eight-month high of 6.07 percent in February, while wholesale price-based inflation jumped to 13.11 percent, owing to a hardening of crude oil and non-food item prices, according to government statistics issued Monday.
The increase in the price of crude oil and natural gas following Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24 has put pressure on the wholesale price index.
