New York City [USA], July 05 (NT): A woman climbed on top of the base of the iconic Statue of Liberty on Wednesday (local time) in opposition of President Donald Trump's immigration policies and family separations.

As per the CNN reports, the woman moved back and forth under lady Liberty's sandal before sitting down, showing a banner.

Apart from her seven other protesters were showing banners, which read "Abolish ICE!" below her. All the protestors have been detained as per latest reports.

The seven others protesting below the statue were detained soon after protests commenced, authorities tried persuading the woman at the base of the statue to climb down. However, because of her rebelliousness with the authorities, for nearly two hours, cops used a harness and ropes on her to bring her down.

This woman is part of the group Rise and Resist. The New York Police Department source said CNN that the woman was saying no to climb down from the statue until all children were released.

 A head of the group, Martin Joseph Quinn told that the woman's actions were not a part of the protests planned against US president’s immigration policies.

National Park Service spokesman Jerry Willis told that the woman is in federal custody. Now She would later be taken to a US Marshals office in Manhattan. Trespassing, disorderly conduct and interfering with government functions among the charges she was expected to face.
