RAIPUR: In a horrific incident in Raksha Bandhanday, a group of men stripped a woman and assaulted her with sticks before abducting her in full public view in Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.

The police rescued the victim and made some arrests. The main defendant was a man that the woman had an adulterous relationship with. The police said, he was irate because the woman went back to her husband on Wednesday.

"The victim moved in with the primary accused eight months after divorcing her husband. She went back to her spouse on Wednesday. After viciously assaulting her, the man could take no more of this and abducted her. Together with two other suspects, he was taken into custody. There is a search for more, "said Superintendent of Police for Jhabua Arvind Tiwari.

The incidnet in Ruparel village was captured on camera and went viral. The woman was observed being assaulted by some men and being forced to sit on a motorcycle.

The BJP government was criticised by the opposition Congress for the "deteriorating law and order situation."

Kamal Nath, a former chief minister, tweeted: "Such behavior with a woman on the day of Rakshabandhan is very shameful and inhumane. One fails to understand why those who indulge in such acts and take law in their hands are emboldened in Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister government?".

A similar incident was reported in Dewas last month, where a mob that included her husband and in-laws tortured and humiliated a 30-year-old tribal woman over a rumoured adulterous affair.
