In a horrific incident,  on Friday, a woman in Guwahati's Christian Basti was found with almost 70% to 80% burns. Later  the woman has been admitted to a private hospital in the city, according to a police source, although it is unclear if she attempted suicide or was the victim of a murder attempt.

The 31-year-old woman, who is married to a businessman called Kaushik Khemka, is said to have been tormented by her in-laws and husband on a regular basis. The victim's mother stated that her daughter married Kaushik in 2019 and that the couple began fighting soon after their marriage.

The victim was found by the victim's neighbours and the security of the building where they resided. The victim's husband was held by the Dispur Police after the event, and an FIR was filed.
