In Maharashtra's Raigad district a woman annoyed over being made fun of regarding her dark complexion, poisoned the food at her relative's house-warming function, killing five people in the function.
On June 18 the accused lady named Pragya Survase added pesticide in the food to be served at the function at her relative Subhash Mane's place in Mahad village.
The people who died because of the poisonous food included four children and an adult man.
Also, around 80 people were admitted to the hospital due to reported food poisoning. They are being treated at a nearby hospital.
The police commenced an investigation regarding the incident and took the lady under arrest with applied charges of attempt to murder.
Raigad Superintendent of Police, Anil Paraskar informed, "She confessed to doing it because of family disputes. 120 people fell ill and five died after eating at the party on Monday."
her act was disheartening and punishable indeed but the other part of the story which deserves attention is the fact that Body shaming has become a major issue in our society. Even a casual statement seeps down the heart of the victim and brings down his confidence and self-esteem.
Such acts should be specifically looked into.
