New Delhi: Indian boxer Manju Rani has made her place in the quarter-finals of the World Women's Boxing Championships by performing brilliantly. Manju (48 kg) defeated Venezuela's Rojas Cedeno 5–0 in the final 16. Manju, who is making her World Championship debut, is just one win away from winning a medal in this competition. However, Manju's journey will not be easy in the quarter-finals where she will meet last-time bronze medalist and top seed Kim Hyang Mi of South Korea on 10 October.

Although Rani failed to put up a strongbox against Cedeno, the Indian boxer fared better than the opponent. Both boxers took a defensive stance, but Manju's punches were more accurate. Another Indian boxer Manju Bamboria (64 kg), however, suffered a defeat against fourth seed Italy's Angelo Karini. Manju Bamboria faced a tough challenge but still lost against the silver medalist of the European Championship. The Indian player lost 1–4 in a split decision.
