Srinagar: Women from Jammu and Kashmir have hundreds of success stories to share with the globe on "International Women's Day," as the repeal of Article 370 has shown to be beneficial for them.

The Centre's announcement that it will abolish J&K's special status and divide it into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019, gave J&K women their first real taste of empowerment and freedom.

Women in "Naya Jammu and Kashmir" are writing a new chapter in the history of the Himalayan area and have become symbols of success.

The government's initiatives geared on empowering women following the repeal of Article 370 have started them down the road to independence and self-sufficiency.

The government has given women significant roles in administration and law enforcement in addition to assisting them in becoming successful entrepreneurs. Young female students with excellence have been given the opportunity to pursue their aspirations through special scholarship programmes.

Women currently have positions as district police heads, deputy commissioners, doctors, engineers, lawyers, company owners, academics, administrative officials, singers, athletes, and more in J&K. In every industry, they have found a niche, and they are sharing their success stories with everyone.

The women of J&K have inspired other women both domestically and globally over the past three years. They are the same J&K women who were stigmatised as weak and incompetent up until 2019. By virtue of their perseverance and hard effort, however, they have disproved their critics.

Women have been instrumental in developing "Naya J&K" during the past three years, seizing every chance that has been presented to them. They have learned from the centrally funded social programmes that prioritise women. Panchayat Raj Institutions are serving as nodes in rural areas and spreading information about women's empowerment programmes at the grassroots level.
The financially independent women have integrated themselves into "Naya Jammu & Kashmir." On the social, economic, political, educational, and judicial fronts, they are actively participating. Women's rights have become a topic of widespread awareness. Their accomplishments are being celebrated and made public.

Relevantly, terrorists and separatists made every effort to restrict the freedom of women starting in 1990, when Pakistan-sponsored terrorism first emerged in J&K, and continuing through 2019.

The militants with guns tried everything, including making women wear veils and forbidding them from going to work, but the women constantly resisted and refused to give in.

As the fairer sex is excelling in every sector without any danger or intimidation, the empowerment of women in J&K is a sign of how the situation on the ground in Union Territory has transformed over the past three years.

While the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has instilled a sense of security by taking firm action against the terrorists and their sympathisers, women are playing exceptional roles in forming their families, societies, and organisations with an unwavering commitment.
One of the few regions in the nation that can brag of presenting amazing women from a young age is J&K. Legendary Union Territory women like Queen Didda, Kota Rani, Lal Ded, Habba Khatoon, and others have significantly influenced the lives of women today.

Women have been awarded leadership positions more frequently in recent years. They are now leaders and decision-makers.

Self Help Groups (SHGs) in J&K have specifically become a representation of women's power in the Himalayan region since 2019. In J&K, there are currently about 56,000 self-help groups, and up to 5 lakh women are involved with these organisations.

According to official statistics, women SHGs have reached about 55% of gramme panchayats in J&K, and efforts are being made to reach the goal of reaching all grass-roots institutions. The rural economies of J&K are changing, and women are largely responsible.
