Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Home Department has allowed women police guards to undergo sex changes. Women custodian Amita (changed name) has been allowed to change sex by the Director General of Police. In fact, women custodians were confirmed to have gender identity disorders since childhood by national level psychiatrists.

Tell us that all kinds of police work like men has been taken up in the district from women custodian Amita (changed name). Also, the application was sent to the police headquarters after they duly published the application, affidavit, and notification of the intention of gender change from the woman in 2019 in the Government of India Gazette. After which guidance was sought from the Home Department for permission from the police headquarters.

Orders were issued by the Police Headquarters to allow any Indian citizen to change the gender of Amita (changed name) after legal consultation with the Law Department on the basis of the established legal principle of freedom of choice of his own gender irrespective of his religion or caste. This is the first case in Madhya Pradesh where a woman custodian has been allowed to undergo gender change by the state government.
