New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Narvane said on Friday that with the doors of the National Defence Academy (NDA) being opened to women cadets, it is expected that they are welcomed with equal treatment and professional spirit as per rules. At the same time, he said, soon women will be in my place. The Army Chief was addressing the cadets after reviewing the passing out parade of the 141st course of the NDA.

The Army Chief further said, 'We have opened the door of NDA to women cadets, so we expect you to welcome them with equal treatment and equal professional spirit as per rules as Indian armed forces are known all over the world.' The Defence Ministry had last month told the Supreme Court to allow women candidates to appear for the NDA entrance exams. A notification will be issued in May next year.

However, the apex court had said that women's entry into NDA cannot be postponed to another year and allowed women candidates to appear for the exam in November this year. Narvane also appealed to cadets to be aware of innovative technology to face contemporary challenges, saying he is very proud to review the parade.
