SYLHET:  Rumana Ahmed ripped through Thailand's middle order by 3 wickets whereas Shamima Sultana hit a 30-ball 49 to win Bangladesh register a 9-wicket in their first match of Women's Asia Cup at the Sylhet Outer Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Thailand was dismissed for just 82 runs in 19.4 overs thanks in large part to the pitch's low turn and low bounce. Then, with 50 balls left, they were able to complete the whole chase in 12 overs thanks to Shamima's heroics.

Phannita Maya led all batters with a 22-ball 26, including three boundaries, in Thailand's pitiful total. She attempted to attack the bowlers as well and tried to start out on the right foot. She received little assistance from the other end, though, as Nattakan Chantam could only make 20, and the only other batters from Thailand to reach double figures were Sornnarin Tippoch and Rosenan Kanoh with 11 and 10, respectively.

With only two overs of pace and the remaining 18 overs being bowled by their spinners, Bangladesh used spin to make life difficult for Thailand. Other spinners who contributed to the success of Rumana's 3/9 in three overs included Salma Khatun (1/18), Nahida Akter (2/11), Sanjida Akter Meghla (2/11), and Shohely Akhter (2/18). Together, they helped bowl Thailand out for a total of less than 100.

Bangladesh had little problems completing the modest chase thanks to the excellent spinners' work, especially in light of Shamima's lightning-quick 49 off 30 balls. She gave the hosts the start they required with her knock, which had eleven fours, and severely deflated Thailand.
