Indian women hockey team lost to Ireland in the second Pool B match on Thursday. Now Indian team is in danger of missing out on a quarter-final berth. This victory helped Ireland in securing the first place in Pool B with six points and followed by England with 2 points and India and the USA with 1 point each.

From Ireland, Anna O’Flanagan scored the goal at the 12th minute, she converted the penalty corner in the only goal of the match. After that, both the team struggled to score the goals. India got one opportunity in the 54th minute of the game when Indian skipper Rani Rampal got the chance to level the score by scoring a much need goal but Irish keeper blocked it successfully.  

Indian men Hockey team focuses on winning Gold in the upcoming tournament

It is the second time when India lose to Ireland consecutively. Earlier, It lost to the same opponents in their last match at the hockey World League Semifinals 2017 in Johannesburg.

Even after this defeat, India has a chance to go ahead in the tournament. It is crucial for India to defeat the USA in next match for qualifying for the quarterfinals. The next match between India and USA is on July 29.
