New Delhi: Indian women's cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana says women's IPL should be launched with five or six teams. Mandhana recently returned home from The Hundred Tournament. She scored 167 runs in seven matches at an average of 27.83. Mandhana also played for Western Storm in the Super League in England and represented the Brisbane Heat in the Women's Big Bash League in Australia.
Mandhana said in Ravichandran Ashwin's YouTube channel that there is an equal number of states for men and women. When they started IPL men, they maintained the same state, but with the time being, the quality level continued to rise. IPL what is today was not 10-11 years ago. I think it is the same for women's cricket as well. We have an equal number of girls who play cricket, she added. At present, we have five or six teams with which women's IPL can be launched, it can be held with eight teams after a year or two. But unless we start, we will not know.
Mandhana said the strength of women's cricket in India cannot be discussed without a tournament like IPL. Mandhana further said that she cannot always discuss whether there is any strength or not. We don't have a T20 tournament in which six teams participate, so we can't tell if there is a strength or not.
