Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Assembly Leader V D Satheesan said on Saturday that the United Democratic Front (UDF) will not allow the SilverLine project (semi-high-speed rail) to be built in the state because it is solely for the elite class.

"The proposal was not even discussed by the state government. We're not going to let it happen. The CPIM central committee was outspoken in its opposition to the Ahmedabad bullet train project. Even the general secretary of the CPIM stated that it is an elite enterprise that will not benefit the people. If the government is focused on the megaproject, the CPIM needs to make its position on the Centre's bullet train project clear "Satheesan expressed his thoughts.

Protests have erupted against Kerala's planned semi-high-speed railway project, SilverLine. It is thought to be one of the Pinarayi Vijayan government's largest infrastructure projects. Thiruvananthapuram in the south and Kasaragod in the north will be connected in just four hours by the projected 529.45-kilometer railway route.
