Ethiopia: The World Bank has approved a USD 300 million rehabilitation fund for Ethiopia. The World Bank said in a news release on Wednesday that the newly granted funds will be used to rehabilitate persons affected by war and its consequences across the country.

"Conflicts in Ethiopia have resulted in the loss of life, humanitarian crises, and the destruction of private and public property, leaving people in desperate need of assistance," the statement said.

"Conflicts have also displaced thousands of people across Ethiopia, exacerbating the prevalence of gender-based violence, particularly against women and girls," the report stated.

The World Bank noted that the additional funds will support initiatives to meet immediate community needs, repair infrastructure destroyed by violence, and increase community resilience to the impact of conflict in a sustained manner.

The USD 300 million will be used to help vulnerable people in the Afar, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Oromia, and Tigray regional states, which are home to a huge number of internally displaced persons.  The project for the newly available funds will be implemented by federal, regional, and community-based organisations, as well as independent third-party entities, according to the World Bank statement.
