RANCHI: Jharkhand Forest department organised a bicycle rally in Ranchi to spread the message for a clean environment and healthy lifestyle on the occasion of world bicycle day today, June 3.
Over 1,000 registered attendees gathered at Ranchi's Morabadi ground today morning to take part in the rally that was being led by principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Sanjay Srivastava. Around 12 miles of cycling through various parts of the city later, the rally came to an end at the Palash Auditorium in Doranda, where participants were given seedlings of various flora.
The participants also pledged to promote environmental protection in their own regions. Speaking at the event, Srivastava noted that "a large number of people, right from children to elderly men, participated in the event, demonstrating that they are aware of their health and environment protection." He said that the Mission Life project was used to organise the programme. We had been running an awareness campaign for the event over the previous few days. Future events of this nature will also be planned,'' he said. As part of the event, many cycling advocacy groups called for the creation of a dedicated bicycle lane in the city to encourage as many people as possible to ride bicycles.
World Bicycle Day 2023: On World Bicycle Day, it is important to highlight the significant role that cycling plays in promoting environmental conservation. Cycling is not just a mode of transportation but also a powerful tool for reducing carbon emissions and creating a sustainable future.
One of the most notable benefits of cycling is its low carbon footprint. Unlike cars or motorcycles, bicycles do not emit harmful greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. By choosing to cycle instead of using motorized vehicles, we can significantly reduce our carbon footprint and combat air pollution.
Additionally, cycling helps to reduce traffic congestion and noise pollution in urban areas. The more people choose bicycles as their mode of transportation, the fewer cars will be on the road, leading to less congestion and a quieter environment. This promotes a healthier and more livable city for everyone.
Furthermore, cycling promotes a closer connection with nature. When we cycle, we can explore our surroundings, enjoy the fresh air, and appreciate the beauty of the environment. It allows us to experience the world around us at a slower pace, fostering a deeper appreciation for nature and encouraging us to be more mindful of our impact on the environment.
World Bicycle Day serves as a reminder that by embracing cycling as a means of transportation, we can contribute to the conservation of the environment. It is an opportunity to promote the benefits of cycling, raise awareness about the environmental impact of motorized transportation, and encourage individuals, communities, and governments to prioritize sustainable mobility solutions.
