Significance of World Consumer Rights Day: In India, National Consumer Rights Day is celebrated on 24th December. As the President of India had approved the Act of Historic Consumer Protection Act, 1949 on the same day.

World Consumer Rights Day holds great significance as the day recognizes the rights of consumers and educates them to act upon them. It focuses to raises awareness that consumer rights are an essential expression of every person as a consumer.

What are the rights of consumers in India?: The definition of consumer right is 'right to information', the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has highlighted the rights as follows:  “Right to Security”. “Right to be informed “,  “Right to choose “Right to be listen”,  “Right to Solve Problem” and  “Right to consumer education” which  are the paramount pillars of The World Consumer Rights Day

History of World Consumer Day: The idea of ​​World Consumer Rights Day was introduced by President John F. Kennedy. On March 15, 1962, President John F. Kennedy formally addressed the US Congress, raising the issue of consumer rights strongly. John F Kennedy was the first world leader to talk about consumer rights.

Notably, on 9 April 1985, the United Nations approved the General Guidelines for Consumer Protection. In the year 1983, World Consumer Rights Day was celebrated for the first time. Since then, World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated every year on 15 March.
