For South Africa, Chris Morris took a maximum of 3 wickets. Chasing the target, the New Zealand team's start was not good. The Kiwi team suffered the first setback as Colin Monroe (9) scored just 12 runs. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada sent him to the pavilion taking a catch on his own ball.

At the same time, after Monroe's outing, Guptill led the innings with captain Williamson, but Guptill hit the ball with Andyle Fehlukwayo in 14.6 overs. He scored 35 runs with five fours. For the second wicket, Williamson and Guptill shared 60 runs. Shortly thereafter, the Kiwi team suffered a big and third setback as Ross Taylor (1). The Kiwi team was completely wobbled after Guptill's out.
