New Delhi: Lion is the national animal of India and they are the pride of India. They are an asset to the country and they need to be preserved.  Five lions have been sent from the Delhi Zoo to Zoos of US, Germany and Bangladesh. In return, Delhi has received animals like jaguars, tigers and African buffalo. Apart from this, more than half a dozen zoos in the country have sent and demanded lions from the capital.

The Zoo director Ramesh Kumar Pandey said that on August 10, International Lion Day is celebrated all over the world. Preparations are being made in Delhi's Zoo. On Monday, the lion's keeper Ramkesh and Vinod will conduct a Webinar at the zoo, the citizens of the country will be closely informed about the lions. He has told that four lions are present in Delhi zoo at this time, out of which two are male and two are female.

He told that the names of these lions and lionesses are Akhila (9), Sundaram (9), Hema (7) and Aman (7). Among them, Akhila has a back problem since birth, due to which she is not taken out of the enclosure. The Zookeeper takes special care of her, with special emphasis on her food. Ramesh Kumar said that two lions were brought to the zoo of Delhi for the first time in the year 1969, after which lions have always been present in Delhi. Delhi has 12 lions in the year 1990.
