World Soil Day is celebrated worldwide on 5 December every year. In today's time, it is necessary to reduce soil erosion and it is necessary to work in this direction. Food security can be ensured. Soils are made up of minerals, organic matter and air in different proportions. It is important for life because of the growth of the plant and it is the habitat for many insects and organisms.
It is also the source of four essential 'living' factors including food, clothing, shelter and medicine. Due to this conservation of soil is very important. World Soil Day started in the year 2002 and the International Soil Science Association has placed a date of December 5 to celebrate it. Not only the International Soil Science Association but the Food and Agriculture Organization also supported the formal establishment of World Soil Day under the leadership of Thailand as a global awareness-raising platform.
The FAO Conference unanimously supported World Soil Day in June 2013 and requested it to be officially celebrated at the 68th United Nations General Assembly. Then in December 2013, at the 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly announced December 5 as World Soil Day. The first World Soil Day was celebrated on December 5, 2014, and has since been celebrated to this day. This day should be celebrated to raise the awareness of the soil around the world and the importance of maintaining a healthy ecosystem and human welfare.
