Chengdu:  In a thrilling display of archery prowess, Sangampreet Singh Bisla and Avneet Kaur triumphed, securing the compound men and women individual gold medals for India at the World University Games in Chengdu. The event unfolded on a memorable Monday (July 31), with India securing a remarkable haul of three gold, one silver, and three bronze medals.

The road to victory was not an easy one for Bisla, who engaged in a tense semifinal contest with compatriot Aman Saini. The gripping match ended in a tie at 147-147, and Bisla's precise shot closer to the center during the shoot-off secured his spot in the final. In the ultimate showdown, he raised the bar even higher, defeating South African Christian de Klerk with a score of 149-147, thus emerging as the worthy champion.

Saini, who had already earned a mixed team gold with Pragati and a men's team bronze alongside Bisla and Rishabh Yadav, showcased his skill again by securing the bronze medal. His final match against Frenchman Victor Bouleau was fiercely contested, with Saini ultimately prevailing with a score of 148-146.

In the women's competition, Avneet Kaur displayed exceptional talent, toppling top-seeded Korean Sua Cho with a score of 146-143 in the semifinals. She carried this momentum into the title clash, where she faced a tough challenge from U.S.A.'s Alyssa Sturgill. Avneet's skillful performance allowed her to clinch the gold medal, as the final ended in a tie at 144-144, and she secured victory with a 10-8 score during the shoot-off.

It was a fantastic day for Indian archery, as they also secured a bronze medal in the recurve women's team event, making the country proud with their exceptional achievements.
