New Delhi: The first day of the World Championship proved a disappointment for India. On the first day, a single Indian Wrestler was out in Greco Roman without winning. All four wrestlers of India suffered defeat. The Asian Championship silver medalists Harpreet Singh (82 kg), Sagar (63 kg) and Manjeet (55 kg) could not score a single point during their matches taking part in the non-Olympic category. Only Yogesh (72 kg) challenged American rival Raymond Anthony Bunker III but lost 5-6.

If the Wrestler who wins the match against the Indians reaches the title clash, he may have a chance to play in the bronze medal for the Bronze medal. Harpreet Singh was beaten by Petr Novak of the Czech Republic 5–0 in 82 kg. Manjit's opponent in the pre-quarterfinal was very strong and tried a lot but lost due to technical superiority. Azerbaijan's current world champion Aldaniz Azili easily defeated him. Sagar could only stand on the mat for just two minutes in the 63kg category and lost in his qualification round to technical wrestler Almat Kebyspayev by technical superiority.
