Following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron is "pessimistic," believing that "the worst is yet to come" in Ukraine.

Over Thursday morning, the French and Russian presidents spoke on the phone for about an hour and a half. Putin stuck to his guns and refused any "compromise," according to BFM TV, citing a Macron spokesman.

According to BFMTV, the Russian President emphasised "his enormous desire" to continue his onslaught, with the goal of "taking control" of the entire country. During the meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin informed his French counterpart that the Russian army's operation is progressing "according to plan" and that it will get "worse" if the Ukrainians do not accept his terms, according to the French presidency.

Putin also reaffirmed that, as he had stated before the start of the war, he meant to "denazify" Ukraine. According to the Elysee, "the President's (Macron) intuition is that the worst is yet to come given what President Putin told him."  "Russia's goal is to annex all of Ukraine." "Vladimir Putin's war objectives have not altered," a source stated.
