Bollywood Khiladi Akshay Kumar is all set to educate the masses on menstruation in his latest outing, PadMan. The movie, which is directed by R. Balki and produced by Akki wife Twinkle Khanna's Mrs. Funnybones Productions, also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor. PadMan is based on Arunachalam Muruganantham, the inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural areas.

During the launch of PadMan's song ‘Aaj Se Teri’, Twinkle was asked if Akshay was her first choice for the film. To this, she said, "No. R Balki convinced me that Akshay should do this part." When nudge further as to who she thought could have played the role when the film was being conceptualized, Twinkle quipped, "Are you trying to create trouble in my marriage now?"

Twinkle further said that she had some names in her mind but realised Akshay would be perfect for the role. "The thing is, if we had somebody who the Indian public idolize and men look up to and he who could wear a sanitary pad, I think (it is) Akshay. I think what Balki has made Akshay do, and of course Akshay is very talented, I don't think anyone could have played it better than him,'' she said.

When Akshay was asked about starring in a movie which dig up with the topic of menstruation, the actor had stated, "If you change nothing, nothing will change. It’s not about being bold, but about breaking taboos that hold us back. I have lived with women all my life, yet I have learn more about the topic while making this film than ever before. I do not mind who I offend or whose stomach I turn by being bold, this is not the Stone Age; menstruating is natural." PadMan is slated to release on January 26, 2018.
