The history of the WWE Intercontinental Championship is years old. This championship belt has been in WWE for more than 40 years and during this time many big and small superstars have earned it. The Intercontinental title was introduced in 1979 and Hall of Famer Pat Patterson was its first winner. So far 84 different superstars have won this championship. The list of superstars who won the Intercontinental Championship belt includes many big names such as Roman Rance, Sath Rollins, Bret Hart and Sean Michaels. But there are still many top superstars who have never achieved this championship belt.

1- Sheamus: Sheamus became the top superstar just days after his main roster debut. The superstar won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by defeating John Cena just a few months after his debut. Sheamus has won the World Title four times in his WWE career and has earned Tag Team Titles and US Championships several times but has not been able to get the Intercontinental Championship belt yet.

2 - AJ Styles: Styles has had 5 years in the WWE and during this time Styles became WWE Champion and US Champion but could not get the Intercontinental Championship belt. The main reason for AJ not being able to win the Intercontinental Championship is AJ Styles being in a different brand. Meaning when the title was part of SmackDown, AJ was in Raw and when it went to RAW, Styles came to SmackDown.
