Srinagar: Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik has been convicted in a terror funding case. The NIA court has convicted Yasin Malik, and the quantum of punishment he will get in the case will be decided on May 25. Yasin Malik himself had admitted in the past that he was involved in terrorist activities in Kashmir. This month, there were reports that Yasin Malik had confessed that he was involved in terrorist activities, had also hatched criminal conspiracies and that the sedition clauses against him were also correct. Yasin was also admitted to the sections under the UAPA.

Yasin Malik told the court that he did not want to challenge the charges against him under Sections 16 (terrorist activity), 17 (raising funds for terror activities), 18 (conspiring to commit terrorist activity), 18 (conspiring to commit terrorist act), and 20 (being a member of a terrorist organisation) of the UAPA and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the IPC. Under the sections under which a case is registered against Yasin, he can get a maximum punishment of imprisonment. Yasin Malik has also been active in the state of Kashmir. It is considered to have an important role in instigating the youth.

Yasin Malik is a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF). In 2019, the central government banned the JKLF. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. Yasin Malik is accused of killing four Air Force personnel in 1990, which he admitted. He is also accused of molesting Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's daughter Rubia Sayeed.
