BANGALORE: State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state for the fourth time on Friday. Governor Vajubhai Wala administered the oath of office and secrecy to 76-year-old Yeddyurappa at a function held at Raj Bhavan. Yeddyurappa has taken an oath alone in the programme. The Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in the state has come to a standstill three days before the Congress-JD(S) coalition government collapsed.

The confidence vote motion tabled by the then Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in the Assembly fell by 99 votes against 105. In a face-to-face incident on Friday morning, Yeddyurappa met the Governor and staked claim to the government and urged him to take oath of office and secrecy on Friday. The Governor then invited him to form the government. Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Yeddyurappa said that he will decide on the members of the cabinet after consulting the party's national president Amit Shah.

Yeddyurappa has been sworn in as Chief Minister for the fourth time. The last time he became chief minister after the May 2018 assembly elections was he was able to stay in office for three days. Yeddyurappa changed the spelling of his name in English before taking the oath. He used to write 'D' twice in his name, but now he has removed a D and added 'I'. The change was revealed by a letter to the Governor claiming to form the government. After resigning as CM in 2007, Yeddyurappa changed the spelling of his name for the first time, then removed the eye and imposed additional D. It is believed that he has changed it again on the advice of Numerology.
