Mumbai:  Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev has apologised for his views about women just 72 hours after they caused a stir.
Ramdev responded to Rupali Chakankar's email from Friday, in which she demanded an explanation for his comments within 72 hours, by sending her an email to that effect. Chakankar is the chair of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women.

The MSCW chief confirmed the new information and said that Ramdev had sent her a statement in which he apologised and expressed apologies, but also claimed that his comments had been taken out of context. "We have his response to our notice,"  However, Chakankar cautioned that "If there are any further objections or complaints, we shall conduct a full-fledged investigation and obtain the complete video recording of the programme held last week.

Women look wonderful in saris, they look great in salwar suits, and in my opinion, they look good even if they don't wear anything, Ramdev Baba remarked out in front of the crowd of mostly female participants at a free yoga training session in Thane.

Ramdev was surrounded at the time by important figures such singer Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena Thane MP Shrikant Shinde, the son of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The brazen claims prompted calls from many quarters in Maharashtra and other regions of India to "slap, kick, and tonsure" Ramdev.

Top party figures like Sanjay Raut, Dr. Manisha Kayande, Kishore Tiwari, Mahesh Tapase, women activists like Aparna Malikar and Trupti Desai, among others, became enraged and attacked Ramdev, demanding an unqualified apology, booking him for demeaning women, and making other demands even as the MSCW issued a notice.
