Yogi government announces plan to install 221-metre bronze statue of Lord Ram in Ayodhya

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had declared its plan to install a 221-metre bronze statue of Lord Ram in the sacred town of Ayodhya.This announcement was made by Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary (Information) Avanish Awasthi  on Saturday.

Reports suggested that The height of the actual statue would be 151 metres. Its overhead umbrella would be 20 metres while the pedestal would be 50 metres, as Awasthi stated.

A museum would also be housed at the pedestal. According to the news agency ANI Five firms short-listed for construction of the statue. They gave presentations before Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath this evening. Officers also added that soil testing is being done for installing the statue.

Worth mention here Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on October 31 inaugurated an imposing 182-metre statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel who is the country's first home minister, in Gujarat.

The spur-of-the-moment announcement on the statue comes at a time when the right-wing outfits RSS and VHP, as well as the Opposition parties, have intensified attack on the PM Narendra Modi led NDA government, accusing it of using the Ram Temple issue for political gains. These groups also alleged that ruling government is fooling the Hindus for four years since coming to power.

Attacking the BJP special consideration at the Centre, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had on Saturday  took a jibe at the Narendra Modi government and said they should wake up from a 'Kumbhakarna-like slumber' and annonce the date for its construction.
