GORAKHPUR: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lead the 'Holika dahan' procession in Gorakhpur on Thursday evening, and on Saturday, the Bhagwan Narsingh Holikotsav shobha yatra. On a three-day visit, Yogi Adityanath will arrive in Gorakhpur on Thursday evening.

Due to the pandemic, these events were not held in the previous two years.  During the Narsingh Shobha Yatra, the head of the Goraksh Peeth, soaked in colours, rides Bhagwan Narshingh Rath and shares Holi wishes with everyone without distinction.

After Mahant Digvijaynath and Mahant Avaidyanath, Yogi Adityanath is leading the Peeth in the direction of social harmony. "The Narsingh Shobha Yatra, named after Lord Narsingh, who fought demon king Hiranyakashyap, began in 1945 by Mahant Digvijaynath, Yogi's mentor Mahant Avaidyanath's predecessor, and has continued since since," said Dwarika Tiwari, temple secretary.

Yogi Adityanath wears sunglasses and a raincoat for the occasion before embarking on a yatra in a motorised chariot with a saffron banner. The yatra passes through the city's small streets, going through the bustling Sarrafa market and being hailed by inhabitants with colours and rose petals.

The parade covers 5 kilometres and ends at the temple, with a huge number of BJP and RSS officials and members joining it.
