Yogi govt to give identity cards to transgenders, work started in Prayagraj

Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh is going to issue special identity cards to transgenders to give them the benefit of special schemes made for them. According to a member of the Kinnar Welfare Board, the board meeting was held at the Circuit House. After the meeting, Kaushalya Nand Giri said that this process has started to bring transgenders into the mainstream of society.

Giri further said that the work of making identity cards has started in Prayagraj and so far three transgenders have been issued in the district. He said free education will be provided to transgender children and a separate ward with five beds will also be prepared for transgenders in each hospital. Giri said separate cells will be set up in police stations to listen to the problems of transgenders and toilets will be arranged for them in public places. The exact number of transgenders will be ascertained and their information will be conveyed to the state government so that schemes can be made for their welfare and implemented properly.

Praising the Yogi government, Kaushalya, a transgender, said the government has set up a 'Kinnar Kalyan Board' in the state to look into their problems. Board members visit each district and hold meetings there. The government had constituted the Transgender Welfare Board in its previous term. After this, in the second term, a target was set to identify destitute transgender persons within 100 days and make their identity cards.
