Lucknow: The infection of corona epidemic is spreading rapidly in the country. Meanwhile, the government's response to the criticism of the Yogi government's decision to hold panchayat elections in the state has now surfaced. On the decision, the Yogi government has said that it does not want elections in the state in view of the epidemic but it has to be done due to the Allahabad high court order.

In fact, Vinod Upadhyay had filed a petition against the Yogi government, on which the High Court had on February 4, 2021, ordered the State Election Commission to hold panchayat elections by April 30. The court had asked the state to complete the allotment and reservation process by April 15. A Yogi government spokesperson said that it was due to the court order that the decision to hold elections in the midst of the epidemic had to be taken. So that it can be completed by 10th May. Elections were scheduled only in December last year, with corona delaying the restructuring and delimitation of panchayats. However, the court order forced the election.

In UP, panchayat elections began on April 15, the results of which will come on May 2. The state government spokesperson said the government is committed to the safety of voters. That is why a special sanitation drive was launched in villages in 75 districts of the State to prevent proper sanitation, sanitation, and infection in Gram Panchayats.
