SEOUL: South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating went up for the second straight week, in a positive sign that his rating may be recovering from unusual lows, a poll showed on Monday.

According to a Realmeter survey of 2,011 voters from August 16 to 19, 32.2% of respondents offered a good evaluation of his job, an increase of 1.8 percentage points from the previous week, as per reports. Yoon's approval rating increased for the second week in a row, moving from 29.3 to 30.4% from the previous week. His disapproval rating decreased by 1.4 points to 65.8%.

The ratings have at least reached their lowest point in the short term, the pollster said. "We will have to observe for another week or two to assess whether it is a solid recovery," he added.

Yoon, who started his term with an approval rating of over 50%, has seen that number drop to about 30% due to an unpopular policy plan and criticism of his personnel selections for the government and the presidential office.

The President stated that he will sincerely uphold public opinion and will properly investigate the numerous issues that have been brought up during a press conference to commemorate his 100 days in office.

Yoon's People Power Party had an increase in favorability that ended a three-week fall and brought it up to 37.6%, closing the gap with the Democratic Party, the primary opposition party, which saw a decrease of 2.7 points to 44%.
