New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday strongly reprimanded the states in the matter of delay in giving compensation on death due to corona infection. The Supreme Court told the states that you cannot reject the claim on technical grounds. Compensation should be given within 10 days of receipt of claim application. The top court told the Maharashtra government in strong words that you are not doing any charity. This is your duty and you should do it from the heart.

In fact, states are refusing to pay compensation merely on the ground that the application has been physically submitted offline instead of online. Most such cases have been reported from Maharashtra. The Supreme Court has given a week's time to the states to pay the compensation. A bench of Justice MR Shah and Justice BV Nagarathna termed the cases of rejection of 'offline' applications as very serious. Let us tell you that the top court had last year ordered the state governments to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the families of those who lost their lives due to corona virus. This compensation was to be provided from the State Disaster Fund.

According to media reports, a bench of Justice Shah and Justice Nagaratna has given a week's time to the state governments to pay compensation to such families whose claims have been rejected due to offline filing. The bench said that all the state governments have to receive every application, whether it is submitted online or offline. All the rejected applications should be reviewed in the next one week and compensation should be given to the families of the victims.
