YouTube Tests Hiding Its Notorious Comment Section By Default

Google's video sharing platform YouTube is going to make some small but significant changes in its Android app. It has been revealed that YouTube has already started hiding comments on the app and there is a specific reason behind it. YouTube aims to eliminate and reduce the negative spread on hate-comments and platforms. According to XDA developers, this step has been taken only for a select few users at present. YouTube has taken this step to protect users from lewd, negative and hateful comments in the YouTube comments section.

It's not that YouTube is completely hiding the comments, and users can currently see hidden comments when they scroll down on the video page. However, the rest of the users who watch the video in this way see better comments above and know that the motive behind the bottom hate-statements is only to spread hatred or increase negativity. In fact, the platform's comments section is for better feedback from video watchers about what they think of the clip, but there are many cases of hate-comments.

For your information, YouTube has made changes to its original interface to deal with it, and for some users the entire comment section has been de-emphasized. For users, all responses will be hidden behind a dedicated 'comments' button, which users will be able to read the comments only after tapping on them. This dedicated button will be delivered below the video title with regular like, dislike and share buttons. After tapping this button, the Overflow menu will show all the comments that can be scrolled and read. Currently, after this latest update, only a select user will go to the Comments section to read the comments that they would like to read and not everyone will see them below the comments video. Significantly, this new feature is being tested with selected users only in India. Also, no information has been revealed as to when the feature will be delivered in the stable Android or iOS app. YouTube says we're testing some of the different options associated with the comment section. Changes to be made will be based on user feedback.
