After the Kharif and Rabi seasons, sowing of Zayed season crops is also catching up. So far, the area of more than 24 percent of Zaid crops has increased as compared to last year. Apart from paddy, sowing of some other crops including maize and groundnut has been more than last year. According to the figures of the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, till last week, 39.58 lakh hectares of Zaid crops had been sown across the country, which is 24.55 percent more than the 32.34 lakh hectares of the same period last year.

The period between Rabi and Kharif season is called Zayed season. During this period, summer crops are grown in which the cultivation of fruits and vegetables is more, but the interest of every farmer in cultivation of coarse grains and oilseeds has increased over the last few years. According to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, summer paddy has been sown in 29.92 lakh hectares, while the area under paddy in the country was 23.38 lakh hectares during the same period last year. Paddy has been sown in Telangana, West Bengal, Karnataka, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Tripura.

It is also being said that in Zayed season, sowing of coarse grains has been done in 3.87 lakh hectares. Among coarse cereals, maize has been sown in 3.07 lakh hectare. At the same time, peanut has been sown in 2.54 lakh hectares in oilseed crops. According to the information received from the ministry, sowing of summer crops has started in Gujarat, while in Rajasthan it is going to start soon. According to the information of the Meteorological Department, during the last week from March 1 to March 4, the country received only 0.9 mm rainfall, which is 73 percent less than the normal rainfall of 3.2 mm. At the same time, according to the report of the Central Water Commission, the water level in 130 reservoirs across the country is 90 per cent as compared to the level recorded during the same period last year.
