KIEV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree imposing personal sanctions on his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and a number of other senior Russian officials. The decree reportedly signed on Thursday was in response to a decision made by Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council.
The sanctions list includes 35 Russian officials, including Secretary of Russia's Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, among others.
Sanctions include travel bans to Ukraine, the revocation of visas and permits, the revocation of state awards, the revocation of all issued licences and permits, the freezing of financial assets, and the prohibition on the transportation of property belonging to Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council.
Furthermore, Zelensky approved a decree that imposes sanctions on Russian colleges and their leaders.
Moscow State University named after Mikhail Lomonosov, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Saint Petersburg State University, and National Research University Higher School of Economics are among the universities on the list. The list includes 236 Russian universities in total.
All relationships and agreements between Ukrainian educational, cultural, and state institutions and Russian universities identified by Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council must be severed.
