Kanpur: Thirty more Zika cases have been reported in Kanpur district, bringing the total number of Zika cases in the district to 66. The 30 new cases were discovered during tests at the King George's Medical University (KGMU) virology lab in Lucknow and the National Institute of Virology in Pune. Since the first case of the virus was reported in the city on October 23, this is the highest single-day increase in infections. Three of the new cases are women, while the other 27 are men. 30 more Zika virus cases found in UP's Kanpur, tally reaches 66.

Dr Nepal Singh, Kanpur's chief medical officer, said Thursday's confirmation brings the total number of cases in the district to 66, with 45 males and 21 females. The National Institute for Virology in Pune, according to Dr. Singh, has confirmed the new cases. Three days ago, the samples were sent for testing. Zika is a mosquito-borne virus spread by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito species called Aedes aegypti.

The Aedes mosquito bites most often during the day, peaking in the early morning and late afternoon or evening, according to the World Health Organization. On October 23, the first Zika virus case in the United States was reported from the Indian Air Force station area in Kanpur, when a warrant officer tested positive for the virus. Three more cases were discovered in the IAF station area after that.
