Zika virus: Six more cases have been reported in Kanpur

Uttar Pradesh: Six more people have tested positive for the Zika virus in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, all of whom are civilians. The city's total number of Zika virus cases has now surpassed ten, with six people testing positive for the virus late Sunday evening. According to a report released on Sunday by the King George's Medical University (KGMU) lab in Lucknow, the Zika virus has infected four women, one of whom is pregnant, and two men.

Vishak G. Iyer, Kanpur District Magistrate, and a team from the Health and Civic Departments rushed to the scene to assess the situation. So far, medical teams have collected samples from 645 suspected symptomatic, fever-stricken, and pregnant women in Zika virus-affected pockets in the city's Chakeri neighbourhood. Their samples were sent to Lucknow's KGMU lab and Pune's National Institute of Virology (NIV).

A special ward has been set up in Kanshi Ram hospital for Zika virus patients from Lucknow, according to G.S Bajpai, Director of Uttar Pradesh's Communicable Diseases Department. Mosquito nets have been placed over the patients in the ward.
