There has been an uproar over the past several days over the security of the Zoom video conference app. The CEO of Zoom itself has also admitted that the Zoom app has flaws regarding security. Zoom CEO Eric S. Yuan said in a blog a few days ago that the company is investigating the matter and the security issue will be resolved in the next 90 days.

An update to the security patch will be released. Along with this, he also said that the number of daily active users of Zoom in December 2019 was 10 million i.e. one crore which has increased to 200 million i.e. 200 million in March 2020. He said that due to coronavirus epidemic, more than 90,000 schools in 20 countries are also using the zoom app.

Government issued advisory on zoom

India's Computer Emergency Response Team and the National Cyber-Security Agency had warned people a few days ago about the security of zoom and said that the zoom app can be a tool for cyber attacks. Through this app, cyber criminals can steal data from government and private offices and misuse it. CERT has said that there is a risk of data leakage with the zoom app.

Zoom app not encrypted

Usually any chatting app and video calling app has end to end encryption. In such a situation, people's data only remains between the sender and the receiver, but this is not the case with the zoom app, because the zoom is not encrypted. As a suggestion, the agency has said that before using the zoom app, keep the app up-to-date and keep a strong password. Apart from this, keep the waiting feature on the app so that the people participating in the meeting remain in control. At the same time, the Home Ministry has also refused to use the zoom app. The government has said that unauthorized people can join the conference through the zoom app and your private meeting can be made public.
