The Nandita Das-directed film "Zwigato," starring Kapil Sharma, will have its international premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival. The movie, in which the well-known comic plays a new food delivery rider, will be screened in the prestigious festival's "Contemporary World Cinema" section.

"Zwigato" also features Shahana Goswami.

Das, who has directed critically, praised movies including "Firaaq" and "Manto," expressed excitement for the debut of her most recent picture.

"Zwigato is prepared at last! A tale about the new urban India that explores everything that has become normal to us, not just the gig economy. In Sameer Nair, I discovered the ideal co-producer to help me tell this straightforward yet nuanced slice-of-life story. Its upcoming premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival makes me ecstatic (TIFF).

"This is especially important to me because I made my acting and directing debuts there with the films "Fire" and "Firaaq," respectively. Other movies have brought me to TIFF throughout the years. I'm hoping that the film's theme will be understood by the enormous international audience that the festival draws "The director made a statement.

The video, according to Sameer Nair, is a glimpse inside the "often unnoticed people" who are the lifeblood of the country and its economy.

"Despite the fact that the movie is set in urban India, we think its themes have universal appeal and will be understood by a wide audience. Working with Nandita has been a pleasure, and we are excited that "Zwigato" will receive its world debut at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival "said Nair.

The movie, which is set in Bhubaneswar and was written by Das as well, stars Sharma as a food delivery worker who is discovering the gig economy. Goswani portrays his wife, a stay-at-home mom who begins working for the first time in order to support his salary.

According to the creators, "Zwigato" depicts the struggles that an "average" family confronts in the post-pandemic world.

They said, "It is life like - bittersweet; it is the story of the never-ending fight of life, but not without shared moments of delight."

"Tora's Husband," a film by Rima Das, will have its world premiere in the TIFF's "Platform" section from September 8 to 18.

The global premieres of "What's Love Got to Do With It?" by seasoned director Shekhar Kapur and "Kachchey Limbu," from first-time director Shubham Yogi, will also take place at the future festival as part of the "TIFF 2022 Gala Presentations" category.
