Shraddh

Shraddh or Pitra Paksh is a ritual which takes place for 16 days. This word is derived from a Sanskrit word which means something which is done with sincerity and faith. During these 16 days people across the country, remember their ancestors or forefathers and wish for their better after life. Food is fed to brahmins in ancestors' name and they are given Dakshina. During these 16 days Hindus don't buy new clothes and no auspicious work is done during Shraddh. It has a great importance in our scripture, people seek blessing from their ancestors and pay homage to them.
