Yet another definition describes cricket as nothing short of a religion. India is the birthplace of many 'Gods' of cricket with the biggest one being Sachin Tendulkar. Although people and fans of cricket are familiar with the names of cricketers, they might not be aware of some facts about cricket and the players.

So, here are some facts about Indian Cricket...
1. The first player to hit a century

Lala Amarnath was the first Indian cricketer who scored a century in a Test series. He is one of the greatest propagators.

2. A player for two teams

Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi, the Nawab Senior, holds a bizarre record of being the only player in the history of Indian cricket who played for two countries, India and England.

3. 21 astounding maiden overs in a row

When in 1964 India counterpart England in Madras, R.G Nandkani made a record of bowling 21 maiden overs in a row. Final figures of his record were 32 overs- 27 maidens- 5 runs- 0 wickets.

4. 6 wide sixes on the trot

Ravi Shahstri smashed six wide consecutive sixes playing for Ranji Trophy in 1984-85. Shastri was bowled by Tilak Raj. The cup tie was between Bombay and Baroda. He was the second ever player to do this.

5. International Debut by Legend

Sachin Tendulkar has played his international debut against Pakistan. That is what something known to the country. But what is unknown is that Sachin took the field for Pakistan before he played for India. He played as a substitute fielder in Brabourne Stadium.

6. 10 wickets in an innings

Anil Kumble took the matters into his own hands while playing against Pakistan. He dismissed the entire team single-handedly, taking all the wickets in an innings during a test match in 1999. He is the second player in the world to do so.

7. Test Captaincy at the youngest age

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the first player who became captain for Test series of India at a very young age. He was just 21 when he was entitled so. Pataudi is also known for playing with a glass eye for a large part of his career.
