Aadhaar Seeding of Bank accounts says Union Minister Sinha

The Central Government is rolling out a plan to seed all the individual bank accounts with Aadhaar and Mobile numbers. Union Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha said the government is in talks with the state governments to ensure the compliance of Aadhaar and Mobile Seeding of all individual bank accounts.

During a meeting chaired by him to review the growth of digital payments and status of Aadhaar seeding with Union secretaries and Chief Secretaries of various states via video conferencing, he asked the state governments to ensure completion of targets on time. For promoting Digital payment mode across the country, the state governments were requested to ensure that all individual bank accounts seeded with Aadhaar and Mobile numbers.

To transfer the benefits through the Direct Benefit Transfer under various schemes to the beneficiaries the governments wants all the individual bank accounts to be seeded with Aadhaar and Mobile numbers so that the targetted recipients receive the entitled benefits. To give the Aadhaar seeding last mile connectivity and to penetrate the reach to the niche areas of the country the banks were asked to utilize existing banking channels and other media communication channels to inform the account holders about the seeding program. 

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary B R Sharma, Commissioner Secretary, IT, Sanjeev Verma and other officers of the state government also participated in the meeting. The Chief Secretary briefed the Cabinet Secretary on the progress achieved on the Seeding of Aadhaar enrolment and the status of connectivity and penetration of internet, mobile, and banking in the state. 

The Chief Secretary also request the Cabinet Secretary to help in fast track completion of the Seeding program in J&K, he also requests to support the state government in eliminating dark spots viz-a viz connectivity and asking support from the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL), to start-up the Aadhaar generation for the left-out population.
