New Delhi: Experienced fast bowler Ashish Nehra has decided to retire from competitive cricket after the first T20 International match against New Zealand on November 1 at Feroz Shah Kotla on his home ground.

A senior BCCI official told that Nehra has informed Chief Coach Ravi Shastri and Captain Virat Kohli about their decision. The ICC will not host the World Twenty20 in 2018, and in such a situation.

It is believed that Nehra will not participate in the Indian Premier League next season. Nehra, who made his debut for India in 1999 under the leadership of Mohammad Azharuddin, played 17 Tests, 120 ODIs, and 26 T20 Internationals. He took 44 wickets in Test matches, 157 ODI and 34 wickets in T20 Internationals.

Senior official said, Yes, Ashish has told both Ravi and Virat that they do not wish to play beyond November 1, when India will play against New Zealand in Ferozeshah Kotla. Of course, it is surprising. It was thought that he would continue playing against Sri Lanka for the domestic season, but he feels that this is the right time to move forward. Nehra was recently selected in the Indian team for a series of three T20 Internationals against Australia but at the same time, everyone was surprised when he did not get a place in the last XI for the first two matches.
