Lipstick Under My Burkha has been appreciated by the both the critics and the audience. Ekta Kapoor stood with the film all the way when it was stuck at the CBFC's decision.
Talking about her decision, she said, "I was told that the film will not even recover the P & A money and my team said that the movie will not do more than Rs 20 lakh on the first day at the box office. So, I told them let us make five more daily soaps and recover the money because I liked the film and wanted to be a part of it."
Ekta added, “More than anything else, I am happy because every research agency stated that the film will not do well. There were articles on the day of the release, which said that ‘chick flicks don’t click’. So many people made patronising statements as well telling me it was a festival film. For me, movies are either good or bad. We tend to underestimate the audience, but when people saw the movie, they got it.”
Alankrita Shrastivava, the director of film had said, "Ekta has done path-breaking work with her women characters. She's inverted the power structure on television, making women characters the epicentre of the power game. She has a strong feminist pulse and I was keen to know what she felt about our film. She told me she wanted to present it through her studio and I thought it would be fantastic for the film."
