India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, Laapataa Ladies, has been rebranded as Lost Ladies as it embarks on an international journey, with a fresh poster unveiled on the film’s Instagram account. Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan Productions, Kindling Pictures, and Jio Studios, the film has been gaining significant praise and is now stepping into its Academy Awards campaign with strong aspirations.
This film, despite its modest budget, has struck a chord with audiences due to its heartfelt storyline and exceptional performances from the cast. But what’s particularly interesting is that the title has been changed after eight months of its theatrical release. The film’s rebranding to Lost Ladies comes as it prepares for a wider international audience, especially after being selected as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards in early 2024.
As part of the Oscars 2025 campaign, the new title was revealed alongside a quirky new poster, featuring the characters in their playful and fun-filled avatars.
Filmmaker Kiran Rao, 51, and her ex-husband Aamir Khan, who also co-produces the film, were recently spotted in New York. They visited the Indian restaurant The Bungalow, owned by celebrity chef Vikas Khanna.
The film’s talented cast includes Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan in key roles. Lost Ladies made its theatrical debut on March 1, 2024, and has already won acclaim, including the Best Film (Critics’ Choice) award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. The plot centers on two newlywed brides who are accidentally switched during a train journey, setting the stage for a heartwarming, comedic adventure.
