Tamil Nadu, including its capital Chennai, has been witnessing continuous heavy rainfall in recent days, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain for Thursday and Friday. The Regional Meteorological Centre predicts that while Chennai will experience moderate rain through Thursday, some areas may face heavy downpours.
Will Schools in Chennai Be Closed?
Despite the ongoing rains and weather warnings, schools in Chennai are set to remain open on Thursday, November 14. There are no holidays declared for schools and educational institutions in the city due to the weather.
IMD's Rainfall Alert for Tamil Nadu
The latest bulletin from the IMD indicates that 23 districts in Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry, Cuddalore, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Kallakuruchi, Tiruvannamalai, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Villupuram, Sivaganga, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Karaikal, are likely to experience heavy rainfall at isolated places on Thursday.
In addition to Tamil Nadu, heavy rain is also expected in Kerala, Mahe, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and southern Karnataka.
Cause of the Heavy Rain
The heavy rainfall is being caused by a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal. This system is moving closer to the Tamil Nadu coast, resulting in increased rain across the central and southern parts of the state. The rain is expected to continue until around November 16.
