NEW DELHI: The Kerala government may have conflicting with NIA investigation into 'love jihad' but only just, it provided a list of around 90 cases of "forced" conversions and alleged luring of women into inter-faith relationships including marriage to the central investigating agency.
The information about the registered cases was anticipated to help the NIA investigation. The NIA, on its part, has moved swiftly, recording statements of two Hindu girls, Athira Nambiar from Pal akkad and another Athira from Bekal in K Kasargod , where they attest to being "decoyed" to embrace Islam and enter into a relationship with a Muslim partner.
Popular Front of India and its political arm Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) have come into view as a common link in the "indoctrination" and "luring" of not only the two Athiras but also that of Akhila Asokan alias Hadiya, a senior NIA officer told. Hadiya has insisted that she got married of her own free will.
While Hadiya and Athira Nambia r, both from Palakkad, purportedly had common PFI/SDPI influencers including SDPI women's wing chief Sainaba, the Bekal case inquiry exposed the role of other activists working on the same lines. NIA sources pointed toward as many as 23 related cases may have PFI links.
