Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on an international tour to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana from November 16 to 21, focusing on enhancing India's global ties, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced.
Starting on November 16, PM Modi will visit Nigeria for two days at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years. During the visit, he will engage in discussions to review and expand the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria. PM Modi will also address the Indian community residing in Nigeria.
India and Nigeria have been close partners since 2007, with strong economic, energy, and defense ties. Over 200 Indian companies have invested more than $27 billion in key sectors within Nigeria. The countries also share a robust development cooperation relationship.
After Nigeria, PM Modi will travel to Rio de Janeiro on November 18 to participate in the G20 Summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva. India, part of the G20 Troika alongside Brazil and South Africa, has been actively contributing to discussions on global matters. PM Modi is expected to share India's perspectives on key international issues and further the outcomes of previous summits, including the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and the Voice of the Global South Summits. He is also scheduled to hold meetings with several world leaders during the summit.
Following the G20 Summit, PM Modi will head to Georgetown, Guyana, from November 19 to 21. This visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana since 1968. During his time in Guyana, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and other senior officials. He is also scheduled to address the Guyanese Parliament and the Indian diaspora community.
Last year, President Ali visited India as the Chief Guest for the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Indore, where he received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman award.
In Georgetown, PM Modi will also participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit, engaging with leaders of CARICOM member nations to strengthen India's long-standing ties with the Caribbean region.
