Recently, Lata Mangeshkar became a victim of online fraud. A woman named Revati Khare has swindled several people by collecting charities from them in the name of Lata Mangeshkar. Lataji has filed a FIR against Revati after getting conscious about this. The fraud was exposed when apparently a donor congratulated Lataji for her noble charitable work.
Since Lataji's name was attached to this, many high profile people also contributed to the charity. Revati, the con woman, allegedly used fake letterheads with a duplicate signature of Lataji. The case has been registered against Revati under section 420, 465, 468, 469 & 471 of IPC.
Shocked by this act of dishonesty, Lataji told, "It pains me to know that a person can fall so low to make quick money. It pains me, even more, to know that my name was being used to con innocent people of their hard-earned money. I can't begin to tell you how distressed I am by how low human nature has fallen."

She further revealed how she got to know about the entire episode, "A friend of mine who had been approached by the same lady alleged something was amiss. She exactly guesses that if I was really collecting money for the said charity, why would I approach my friends through someone whom they had never heard of, and never met?"
